All that announcement about their new devices from Sony, not a single one of them is mentioned in AnandTech. I wonder if Sony is banned from AnandTech for some political reason.
Back to topic of this article, I wonder if it will be better to release a front-camera only phone with an optional accessory that snaps to the phone and add this level of back-camera with extra batteries, I'd buy it.
I know you think you are being oh so clever with this remark, but, sadly for you, this statement mainly reflects your ignorant because, Apple, DID in fact sell the first color consumer digital electronic camera, the QuickTake, in 1992.
There were digital cameras sold before that but they were not mass market items; Kodak, for example, sold the DCS-100 for $13,000. There was a thing called the Dycam 1 released in 1990 which is a little closer to consumer; it cost "only" $1000, produced BW pictures, and looked so dorky that it makes a QuickTake look positively sleek.
You can hate on Apple all you like, but you will look a little less ignorant while doing so if you actually accept that they have had a notable role in computer/CE history, and your snark would benefit from some fact-checking before it was posted.
So even though Apple didn't invent the digital camera, they weren't the first to market one and all they did was re-badge cameras made by Kodak and Fuji, you feel that they should be given the credit just because they're Apple?
how hard could it be to pack a decent battery into that already big thing, as well as a speaker and microphone? Seems kinda pointless as it is: most people would rather buy a wi-fi SD card for my camera (or a new one with integrated wi-fi) to pair with their smartphone, instead.
So is this meant to be a full on smartphone replacement? It's hard thinking of people wanting this if they already have a smartphone in their pocket. Maybe it's meant fo rAndroid handset people who want their next phone to have a real camera(Excluding you DSLR people. Having a huge lense, flash and tripod attached to a smartphone is hilarious. Could make it work with a bluetooth earpiece though!).
Uh, no. How is this a smartphone replacement? It doesn't even take phone calls.
It's a camera. A point and shoot camera. It has absolutely 100% nothing to do with "android people". It's a compact camera for people who want a little extra gimmick in their interface.
The article didn't mention the lack of voice, just that it was similar to a Galaxy S3 and had 4G connectivity. Made it sound like a GS3 with a decent camera. It does seem pretty gimmicky then.
Its more than that. For the casual shooter this could be very useful. Full editing suite to auto-correct exposure or apply effects. Auto-upload over wifi in the background to Picasa or Youtube or whatever, HDMI for presentations like an old-fashioned slide show. I still dont want one, but could easily see how many people would be interested.
I wont buy one though. I do like upgrading my phones and my cameras, but I rarely do both at the same time. This would be like buying a home theater in a box. Even though it seems convenient now, I know eventually I'm gonna want separate components. Hell, I'm still using my D40 and see no reason to change right now.

Those icons, the relatively rectangular shape, the large zoom lens... this is an iPhone ripoff if I ever saw one... and it looks white too!Mr Perfect - Thursday, August 30, 2012 - link

I think it will be a nice "bonus" to be usable as a phone though...
