As promised, my article on the Pentium M as a Desktop CPU has been posted.

Next up, a look at the HTPC potential of the new Mac mini.

Actually, once they overclocked it to 2.4 with a 533 bus, it went clock for clock with the A64. So, once the Sonomas come out at a higher clock and the faster bus, it should be very competative.

Maybe next year they can ramp up the speed and add a second core and that would be one hell of a machine.

Make sure you overclock that mini. You know you want to :)

I'm disappointed in the P-M results. I was really hoping that a Pentium-M would run neck-to-neck with the desktop parts, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Looks like my next PC will be an A64 after all.

#1: Me too. The only reason I can think of is "it's small" and that's not a very good one.

Personally, I don't think of the Mac mini as a very good HTPC. The OS isn't set up for it, and the DVD Player.app in OS X needs work for deinterlacing.

Plus it's not powerful enough for Hi-Def.

Anyways, I'm off to read the Dothan article...
